Daniel 'Romie' Burgess

SALISBURY - Daniel Jerome "Romie" Burgess, age 77, of Salisbury, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014, at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House.

Mr. Burgess was born Dec. 18, 1936, in Rowan County, the son of the late Bessie Lee Tucker Burgess and Daniel Webster Burgess.

Romie was educated in Rowan County schools and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1954-1958. He retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation and was a member of West Innes Church of Christ.

Preceding him in death were his brothers, Robert, John and James Burgess.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Elizabeth Mae King Burgess, who he married June 20, 1992; stepsons Charles King, Wendell King and Jeffrey King, all of Statesville; stepdaughter Judy Henry of Griffin, Ga.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Monday, June 9 at West Innes Street Church of Christ.

Service: 2 p.m. Monday, June 9 at West Innes Street Church of Christ conducted by Jeff Cannon, Minister of West Innes Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Rowan Memorial Park.

Memorials: May be made to West Innes Street Church of Christ, 2925 W. Innes St., Salisbury, NC 28144; or Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House, 720 Grove St., Salisbury, NC 28144.
