James L. Thompson

SALISBURY - James Logan Thompson, 83, of Salisbury, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014, at Autumn Care of Salisbury, surrounded by his loving family.

Born May 12, 1931, in Polk County, he was the son of the late Essie Ledford Thompson and James Floyd Thompson. James served in the Army National Guard from 1947-1954 and was employed by Duke Power Company from 1951-1987.

He served on the Board of Alderman for the Town of East Spencer and was a member of Spencer Masonic Lodge and the Salisbury Moose Lodge. James was a charter member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were his first wife, Remona Maxwell Thompson, on Aug. 19, 1988, who he married July 28, 1951; sisters Ruth Thompson, Elizabeth T. Sims, Dorothy T. Sims; brother Bob Thompson; and stepdaughter Dawn Hair.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jean Waller Thompson, who he married March 19, 1989; brother Memory Thompson of Port Lavaca, Texas; sister Marjorie McGee of Lake Wylie, S.C.; daughters Bonnie Corriher (Fred) of Landis, Dea Campola (Joe) of Spencer, Malea Whitley (Alan) of Salisbury; son James A Thompson (Linda) of Salisbury; step-daughters, Gail Schwendinger (Ken) of Salisbury and Rachel Carlyle (Danny) of Rockwell; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Visitation: 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Wednesday, June 25 at Oakland Heights Baptist Church, 205 Newsome Road, Salisbury, NC 28146.

Service: 12 p.m. Wednesday, June 25 at Oakland Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Roby Linebarger officiating. Burial to follow at Rowan Memorial Park, 4125 Franklin Community Center Road, Salisbury, NC 28144.

Memorials: Oakland Heights Baptist Church, 205 Newsome Road, Salisbury, NC 28146.
