Hazel B. Dickey

KANNAPOLIS - Hazel Ballard Dickey, 79, of Kannapolis passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Tucker Hospice House.

She was born Oct. 21, 1934, in Iredell County, the daughter of the late Lonnie and Sadie Webster Ballard. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Martin, and a brother, Guy Ballard.

She had just recently retired from K&W Cafeteria where she worked for the past 29 years. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. In earlier years, she played softball with the Pillowcase Pirates in the old Cannon Mill league.

She is survived by children Claude (Zippy) Gaines of China Grove, Tina Deason of Christiansburg, Va., Mona Ballard Joplin of China Grove, Sonia Leigh Ann Talbert of Oakboro, Eddie Ballard of China Grove and Donna Ballard Melton of Albemarle; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great- great-grandchildren; sister Kay Ballard Tucker of Charlotte; one nephew; two great-nieces; and one great-nephew.

Arrangements: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 2 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Whitley's.
