Carl R. Haynes

SALISBURY - Carl Rogers Haynes, 84, of Salisbury, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks.

He was born Dec. 23, 1929, in Rowan County, the son of the late Pinkney M. and Annie Rebekia Rogers Haynes.

Carl graduated from China Grove High School in 1948 and Catawba College in 1959. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean War on the USS Southerland as a quarter master.

Carl worked as an auditor for the NC Department of Revenue. He served as treasurer of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he was a member, as well as past treasurer of the NC Lutheran Brotherhood.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Betty Jo Cress Haynes, who passed away Sept. 5, 2002; and sister Eva Mae Sloop.

Left to cherish his memory are the second love of his life, Mary Powlas; son Pastor Carl Haynes (Kathy) of Salisbury; daughters Brenda Rau (Karl) of Orange Park, Fla., and Linda Haynes of Salisbury; brother John Howard Haynes (Arlene) of Faith; grandchildren Suzanna Paskiewicz, Natalie Iannucci (Dan), Emily Barnes (Patrick), Laura Rau and Rebecca Rau; great-grandchild Claire Paskiewicz; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 12:30-1:45 p.m. Saturday, July 19 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 205 St. Paul's Church Road, Salisbury, NC 28146. The family will be at the residence of Pastor Carl Haynes at other times.

Service: 2 p.m. Saturday, July 19 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. D.J. Lura and Rev. Bill Ketchie officiating. Burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials: The family requests that memorials be given to the Memorial Fund at St. Paul's Lutheran Church; or to a charity of your choosing.
