Albert 'Robin' Roberts

SALISBURY - Albert E. "Robin" Roberts, age 72, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 22, 2014.

He was born in Indianapolis, Ind., to the late Albert and Lucille Roberts.

Robin was a graduate of Butler University, Western Michigan University and earned his Ph.D. at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

He taught Psychology at Catawba College for 40 years, a career resulting in numerous publications in research journals and invitations to international conferences. He was an avid fan of University of Tennessee football and the Indianapolis 500. In his retirement years, he enjoyed genealogical research and extensive traveling.

In addition to his wife of 47 years, Sally, he is survived by his children, Amy (Matt) Shorter of Salisbury, Ben (Shannon) Roberts of Charlotte; and his four grandchildren, Nathaniel, Olivia, Ella and Savannah. He is also survived by a sister, Diane (Dale) Barklow of San Tan Valley, Ari.; a brother, Allan (Darlene) Roberts of Indianapolis, Ind.; brothers-in-law Mike Allen of Woodbridge, Va., and Ted (Lisa) Cooper of Romeo, Mich.; his mother-in-law. Millie Cooper of Muskegon, Mich.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members; and special friends Leanore and Sanford Silverburg.

Service: 10 a.m. Friday, July 25 at First United Methodist Church conducted by Dr. Mark Conforti, minister, Rev. Rhonda Hermann, associate pastor, and Dr. Sanford Silverburg. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his name to Catawba College, Office of Development, 2300 W. Innes St., Salisbury, NC 28144; and the Building Fund at First United Methodist Church, 217 S. Church St., Salisbury, NC 28144.
