James Leonard Cody

SALISBURY - James "Jim" Leonard Cody, age 76, of Salisbury, passed away at Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, after nine months of declining health.

Jim was born Jan. 27, 1938, in Lexington to the late Perlie Adams Cody and Edna Beck Cody. He was a member of the Class of 1956 of Linwood High School. Jim followed his dad and grandfather in logging prior to working in maintenance at Duracell for 28 years.

Jim married the former Sandra Sharpe of Kannapolis on May 18, 1969, who survives her loving husband. They were happily married 45 years.

Jim enjoyed traveling to the beach and mountains, camping at Saddle Ridge Campground on the Blue Ridge Parkway, NASCAR, and he always looked forward to attending church each Sunday before his health failed.

Jim was a member of Linwood United Methodist Church for 42 years and then Rockwell United Methodist the past three years, since moving to The Gables on Faith Road in Salisbury.

In addition to his surviving wife, Jim leaves behind a caring sister, Brenda Sue Cody Kearns of Lexington; one nephew, Radford Kearns and wife Debbie of Tyro; and two nieces, Belinda Kearns of Lexington and Sherry Moorefield and fiance Eddie Bailey of Welcome.

Visitation: The family will receive friends Wednesday, Aug. 6 from 12:30 until 2 p.m. at Rockwell United Methodist Church.

Service: The Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 6 at 2:30 p.m. at Rockwell United Methodist Church conducted by Pastor Warren Miller.

Burial will follow at First United Methodist Church Cemetery in Troutman, at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6.

Memorials:May be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Rowan County, 720 Grove St., Salisbury, NC 28144; or Rockwell United Methodist Church, Building Fund, P.O. Box 337, Rockwell, NC 28138.

Special thanks to our supportive neighbors at The Gables and also to each one of the Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care staff who cared for Jim during his last two weeks of life.
