Harold W. Gillespie

BRONX, N.Y. - Mr. Harold Warren Gillespie, 71, passed on Friday, Aug 1, 2014, at his residence.

He was born Monday, Sept. 28, 1942, in Rowan County, N.C., to the late Lucille Gillespie Avery. Harold attended R.A. Clement School and graduated in 1960. He also attended A&T State University.

He joined the Army in 1964 and served during the Korean Conflict. He was employed with Grand Wines & Liquors for more than 40 years.

He was affectionately known as "Buddy," "Buckwheat" or "Hootie." He enjoyed golfing and bowling prior to his declining health.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Louise Reid Gillespie.

He is survived by his son, Keith Warren Gillespie of Albany, N.Y.; grandsons Keith Jr. and Nassad of Albany, N.Y.; brother Claude T. Avery, II of Salisbury, N.C.; sisters Sharon A. Davis (James) of Durham, N.C., Mona A. Holt of Bronx, N.Y., Vera E. Avery, Gretchen A. Dunlap and Lynda A. Barber (Charles), all of Cleveland, N.C.; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, loyal friends and classmates.

At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of brother Claude T. Avery, II, 136 S. McCoy Road, Salisbury

Arrangements: Visitation and Funeral will be held Saturday, Aug. 9, at A.R. Kelsey Memorial Chapel, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, Inc., Salisbury, N.C., with visitation at 1 p.m. and funeral at 2 p.m. Military Rites and Interment will take place Monday, Aug. 11, at Salisbury National Cemetery, Statesville Boulevard, at 10 a.m.
