Dorothy 'Dot' Powlas Blair

SALISBURY - Dorothy "Dot" Powlas Blair, 87, of Salisbury passed away Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014 at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.

Dot was born Jan. 4, 1927 in Rowan County, the daughter of the late Annie Goodman Powlas and John A. Powlas.

She attended Woodleaf Schools and was a graduate of Cosmetology School and attended classes at Hadley School for the Blind. Mrs. Blair worked as a cosmetologist for many years at Jean's Beauty Shop and retired from the downtown JC Penny store. She was a longtime member of Franklin Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed her meetings with the Rowan Rambler's group. She enjoyed reading Braille and listening to her tapes from the Library of Congress.

Preceding her in death was her husband of 50 years, William Marshall Blair who passed on July 24, 1992. Also, preceding her in death are a brother Lloyd Powlas, and sisters, Madge Hall and Mavis Blackwelder.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sister, Thelma P. Elie; niece, Terry M. Francis (John); and nephew, Gene N. Elie, all of Salisbury.

Graveside Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12 at City Memorial Park.

The family would like to thank Dr. Shellhorn and his Staff for the loving care they showed Dot; Jean Foster and Reva Stevens for their lifetime friendship; and Renita Ritchie for her years of caring and sharing.
