SALISBURY - Ruth Ray Gulledge, 86, of Rockwell, passed away Aug. 27, 2008, at the N.C. Lutheran Home in Salisbury.
Born April 15, 1922, in Buncombe County, Mrs. Gulledge was a daughter of the late Martin Long Ray and Margaret Armstrong Ray. She graduated from Western Carolina Teachers College in 1943, taught school for 43 years, teaching at East Rowan High School as an English teacher, and was the yearbook and newspaper sponsor.
Mrs. Gulledge was an active member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church in Granite Quarry as long as her health permitted.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Robert "Bob" Carter Gulledge, Sr., on May 7, 1982, and brother, Jesse A. Ray, III.
Survivors include her son, Mr. Robert C. Gulledge, Jr. and wife Rebecca of Virginia Beach, Va.; grandchildren Elizabeth Glasgow of Atlanta, Ga., and Margaret Stegner of Camden, S.C.; three sisters, Stella Clark of Newbern, Eugenia Carter of Asheville and Marian Greeson of Thomas-ville; and three great-grandchildren.
Service: The funeral service will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, Aug. 30 at Shiloh United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Jonathan Marlowe, Pastor, with burial Sunday, 2 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church in Asheville.
Visitation: The family will receive friends at Shiloh United Methodist Church Saturday from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.
