Samuel Cary Sloop

SALISBURY - Samuel Cary Sloop, 81, of 1030 Patterson Rd., died Saturday, March 5, 2010, at his residence.

Born on Dec. 18, 1928, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late N.C. and Margaret Felker Sloop.

Educated in the Rowan County Schools, he went on to graduate from Catawba College. Having served in the United States Army, he saw action during the Korean War where he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

A lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church, he was a member of the church council, served as a Sunday school teacher and was involved with the Boy Scouts. He had retired from the IRS where he was an auditor.

Mr. Sloop enjoyed farming, fishing and sports.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Peeler Sloop in 1992; brothers, Charlie, Marvin and Albert Sloop; and a sister, Geneva O'Neil.

Survivors include sons, S. Tim Sloop (Mary) of Salisbury, Jeffrey Sloop of Charlotte and Perry D. Sloop (Sharon) of Cary; daughter, Star Atwell (Brian) of Salisbury; brothers, John, Robert, C.F. and Otho Sloop all of Salisbury; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sarah and Jared Sloop and Spencer and Dillon Atwell; numerous nieces and nephews; and special great-nephew, Chris Sloop.

Visitation, Service and Burial: Sunday 2-3:45 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church. Funeral at 4 p.m. with Rev. Jerome Cloninger, Minister. Burial will follow at Grace Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorials: Grace Lutheran Church Building Fund, 3020 Grace Church Rd. Salisbury, NC 28147.
