Leonard 'L.E.' Straub Jr.

Salisbury - Leonard Eugene "L.E." Straub, Jr., 80, of Salisbury, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011 at his home.

Leonard was born Oct. 26, 1930, the only child of the late Leonard Eugene Straub, Sr. and Ruth Seay Burford Straub. He was educated in the Rockbridge County schools, Lexington, Va.

Leonard enjoyed a career as carrier for the Salisbury Post and retired with Independent Life Insurance Company. He loved gardening, and bird and squirrel watching. Known for his untiring service to his family and friends, he was eager to help in any situation. Leonard will be deeply missed by his family and large family of friends.

A charter member of Franklin Baptist Church, he served as deacon and Youth Sunday School Teacher. He was a member of the Tommy Burleson Sunday School Class, member and past president of Milford Hills Lion's Club. A bell ringer for many years for the Salvation Army, he also served many seasons at Rowan Helping Ministries Christmas store. He was also a member and past president of Happy Heart Senior's Club and also served as past president, secretary and treasurer for Life Underwriter's Association. Leonard also served as member and past president of West Rowan Booster's Club.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Doris Wheeler Straub, whom he married Jan. 24, 1953; two daughters, Connie S. Hoffner (Alan) and Donna S. Wilson (Ronnie); one son Leonard Eugene "Bucky" Straub, III (Candice), all of Rowan County. Leonard was blessed with six grandchildren, Chris Hoffner (Tara), Amy Hoffner, Matt, Sam and Sara Wilson, and Ryan Straub; two step-grandchildren, Macy and Lindsay and five great-grandchildren, Noah, R.J., Owen, Ryland and Ansley. Also surviving are his beloved pets, dog Mya and cat Precious.

Service and Visitation: A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011 at Franklin Baptist Church, 3810 Hwy 601, Salisbury, NC 28144. The Rev. Joe Thomas will officiate. There will be a visitation in the church following the service.
