Lester Raymond Grant

STATESVILLE - Lester Raymond Grant, age 85, of Shiloh Church Road, passed away Monday Oct. 31, 2011, at Gordon Hospice House.

He was born July 6, 1926, in Iredell County to the late John Walter "JW" Grant and Elizabeth York Grant. Mr. Grant served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from JC Penney warehouse and later was a self-employed wood crafter.

He attended Union Chapel Baptist Church and loved his Lord and Savior and his family. He enjoyed staying active and his Gospel music.

He is survived by his wife, Lizzie Nell Teague Grant of the home; one son, Steven Grant and wife Kay of Salisbury.

Service and Visitation: Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3 at Union Chapel Baptist Church. Rev. William Wiest and Rev. Rick Perry will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Iredell Council of Veterans. The family will receive friends from 1:30-3 p.m. Thursday prior to the service at Union Chapel Baptist Church.

Memorials: May be given to Gordon Hospice House; Union Chapel Baptist Church; or Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
