Thomas 'Tom' Cowden

YADKINVILLE - Master Thomas "Tom" Samuel Cowden, 15, of Amber Hill Road, left his Earthly body Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at his home and suffers no longer.

Tom was born March 29, 1997, in Forsyth County to H. Nelson and Christi Troutman Cowden. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Mocksville, where he was a member of the FUMC Jr. High Youth.

Tom attended had attended W.R. Davie for Elementary School, was currently a student at North Davie Middle School and belonged to Boy Scout Troop 505.

Tom loved all different kinds of animals. He enjoyed camping and other activities such as fishing, shooting and archery. Tom mostly enjoyed spending time at home and being with family.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Fred Troutman.

Survivors include his parents; a sister, Ivy Cowden, all of the home; paternal grandparents, John Cowden of Mocksville and Judy Nelson of Kernersville; maternal grandmother Bonnie Troutman of Yadkinville; maternal aunt and uncle Cindy and Wesley Gregory of Harmony; paternal aunt Katie Cowden of Queens, N.Y.; and cousins Ryan, April, Josh and Colby Gregory.

Service: A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 22 at First United Methodist Church of Mocksville with the Rev. Joseph Collins, D.Min., the Rev. John Huneycutt and the Rev. Darren Alexander officiating.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be considered for Davie Community Foundation for the establishment of the Thomas Cowden Boy Scout Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 546, Mocksville, NC 27028.

The family wishes to express their most sincere gratitude to the Bayada nursing staff, the staff at Brenner Children's Hospital, St. Jude Children's Research, Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Davie County and Dr. David Rice for their many acts of kindness.
