ROCKWELL - Ben Eugene Sloan, 91, went home to be with the Lord Thursday afternoon, May 24, 2012, at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.
Born Oct. 15, 1920, in Iredell County, he was the son of the late Arlie and Sallie Ketner Sloan. Educated in the Rowan County schools, he honorably served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Sloan retired from Cannon Mills after more than 36 years of service.
A longtime faithful member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church, he loved his family and friends and enjoyed fishing and gardening.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Stirewalt Sloan, on May 11, 1970; brothers Charles, Reece and Ray Sloan; and sister Arlene Westmoreland.
Surviving cherished family members include his daughters, Hilda Roseman and husband Harold of China Grove, Dr. Anita Westafer of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Shelia Armstrong and husband Bryan of Rockwell; his sisters, Frieda Stengel, Cedarburg, Wis., and Thelma Archer of China Grove; his brother, Earl Sloan of Kannapolis; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Service and Visitation: A service to remember and celebrate Mr. Sloan's life will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 27 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends in the church Fellowship Hall from 2:30-4 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorials: In lieu of floers, memorials may be made to Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Tree Fund, 4914 Old Beatty Ford Road, China Grove, NC 28023; or Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
