HICKORY - Betty Harvey Davenport, 84, of Charlotte, formerly of Hickory, passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2012.
Born Dec. 19, 1927 in Tampa, Fla., she was the daughter of the late Robert Harvey and Vera Kluttz Harvey. The family moved to Salisbury, and as a young adult she moved to Catawba County.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. H.V. Davenport.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hickory, a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College, a case worker for Catawba County Dept. of Social Services and a teacher at College Park Jr. High School.
She is survived by two sons, William H. Davenport and wife Yen of Charlotte and Stephen D. Davenport and wife Laura of Central, S.C.; daughter Kathy D. Blackburn and husband Bruce of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a stepbrother, U. Ray Miller, Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; and a sister, Vera H. Pascal.
Service: The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4 in the chapel at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hickory, with the Rev. C. Pierson Shaw officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Visitation: The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2-3 p.m. at the church.
