CHARLOTTE - Stanley Palmer Cargo, 86, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at his son's residence.
Born April 1, 1926, in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was a son of the late William B. Cargo and Bertha Helen Palmer. Mr. Cargo was a member of Advent Lutheran Church in Charlotte and Our Redeemer Lutheran in McMurray, Pa., previously.
Stan served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving several commendations, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Stan was a member of the Mason Lodge 45, VFW 764 and United Association 449, each for over 60 years.
He enjoyed working with his hands and was generally a "Mr. Fix-It." He enjoyed walking with his wife and friends at the mall and was known for his wit and humor.
Mr. Cargo is survived by his wife, Anice Adams Cargo; a son, Mark A. Cargo and wife Karen of Charlotte; one sister, Gail Treusch and husband George of Asheville; and six grandchildren, Maria, Erik, Nick, Kelly, Brandy and Krystal.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Cargo was preceded in death by a son, Stanley P. Cargo, Jr.; and a brother, William B. Cargo.
A funeral to celebrate his life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12 at The Derita Chapel of McEwen Funeral Service with the Rev. Ward Misenheimer of Advent Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 at the funeral home.
