Evans S. Leinbach Sr.

SALISBURY - Evans Scates Leinbach Sr., 86, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, surrounded by family at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 13, 1926, in Fort Fairfield, Maine, to the late William Edward Leinbach, Jr. and Hazel Scates Leinbach. He honorably served his country in World War II in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater.

Upon returning from the Navy, he graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in Civil Engineering. After graduation, he was initially employed by Atlantic Coastline Railway as a civil engineer. His remaining career was spent with the N.C. Department of Transportation as a civil engineer until his retirement in 1986.

On June 18, 1960, he was married to Colleen King Leinbach. They were married for 36 years until her death in 1996. His greatest love was spending time with his only grandson, Evans III, and enjoying his outdoor projects and activities.

He is survived by his son, Evans Scates Leinbach Jr., wife Becky and son Evans III of Salisbury; sister Margaret Leinbach Scott and husband James of New Bern; nephews and nieces Jimi Scott of Durham, Susan Scott Higgins of Texas, Robert Leinbach of Utah and Keith Leinbach of Greensboro.

Service and Visitation: Visitation will be held at Pollack-Best Funeral Home in New Bern, at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27. Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. at New Bern Memorial Cemetery. Rev. Mark Burns, pastor of Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, China Grove, officiating.
