Douglas Wayne Blake

WOODLEAF - Douglas Wayne Blake, 59, of Woodleaf died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012 at his home.

Born May 28, 1953 in Gastonia, he was the adopted son of the late Essie Mize Blake and Paul E. Blake.

He was educated in the Gastonia schools and was a veteran of the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Mr. Blake attended Woodleaf Baptist Church.

Wayne will be missed and remembered lovingly by all his family and friends as someone who loved animals, especially his dogs, Spud, Dixie and Tazz. He had a good sense of humor, was a good cook and loved his family and friends. Wayne always cared for and looked out for Chris, the love of his life who will miss him dearly. He made friends easily and always had a positive outlook on life.

Those left to cherish his memory are his life partner, Chris Sherrill of the home; biological mother, Pearl Ivey of Gastonia; sisters, Patricia Rick and Pauline Ervin and husband Jack all of Carlisle, S.C.; brothers, David Blake and wife Linda of York, S.C., Danny Lee Mason of Gastonia; half-brothers, Gene and David and numerous nieces and nephews.

Service: A graveside service will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28 at the VA National Cemetery with the Rev. Chris Williams, officiating. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 9-10 a.m. Friday at the Summersett Funeral Home.
