Margaret Ritchie Buie

SALISBURY - Margaret Ritchie Buie, 90, of Salisbury passed away Friday, May 3, 2013 at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.

Born July 30, 1922 in Salisbury, Margaret was the daughter of the late Ada Lottie Plyler Ritchie and Julian Arthur Ritchie. She was a graduate of Boyden High School and Salisbury Business College. During World War II she worked at Glenn L. Martin Aircraft in Baltimore, Md. in the blueprint department as a secretary. Mrs. Buie retired from the Rowan County Department of Social Services after 18 years as an eligibility specialist.

She was a life-long member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School and Week-Day Bible School for many years and served as a Summer Camp Director for young people at Kiwanis' Camp. She served as president of the Eva Peeler Sunday School Class and as a Group Leader in the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. She was a Life-Member of The Auxiliary of The Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. She was a member of the Golden Opportunity Club and the Funeral Choir. She served on the Altar Guild. She and her husband Ray were Communion preparers for many years. Margaret received the "Silent Angel Award" for her volunteer work in 1994. In her younger years, she served as an officer in The Luther League.

A former Auxiliary Member of the AMVET Post 565, she received the "Auxiliary Member of the Year Award" in 1990-91. She served as president of AMVET Post 565.

Preceding her in death was a sister, Willie Mae Glover in 2011 and a grandson, Brian W. Jones.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Samuel Ray Buie; two daughters, Glenda Margaret Jones and Barbara Anne Heilig, both of Charlotte; son, Bradford Ray Buie (Bonnie L.) of Roanoke, Va.; three grandchildren, Erin L. Holben (Andrew F.), Lauren P. Altieri and Brandon L. Altieri; and two great-grandchildren, Joshua F. Holben and Audrey E. Holben.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Summersett Funeral Home.

Service: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 8 at St. John's Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. Rhodes Woolly. Burial will follow at Oakdale Baptist Church.
