ROCKWELL - Mr. "John" Robert Bracken, 77, of Rockwell, passed away on June 12, 2013, at his residence.
Mr. Bracken was born in Davie County April 12, 1936, a son of the late Marvin Bracken and Ester Prevette Bracken. Mr. Bracken was a 1954 graduate of Mocksville High School.
He retired from Hoechst Celanese where he worked for 31 years. He also worked for HBD and was a farmer.
Mr. Bracken was a member of First Baptist Church of Rockwell. He enjoyed farming, gardening, flowers and playing tennis.
Mr. Bracken was a veteran of the United States Army, having served from 1960 until 1965.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter Gloria Bracken; brother Aaron Bracken; and sister Beatrice Bracken.
Mr. Bracken is survived by his wife, Dorothy Mae Grissom, who he married Feb. 14, 2001; son Robert Glenn Bracken and wife Angie of Harmony; stepson Ron Owens and wife Barbara of Texas; stepson Todd Grissom and wife Sherra of Salisbury; daughter Robin Lynn Bracken White and husband Brian of Elkin; stepdaughter Faye Mauldin of Salisbury; brothers Paul Bracken, Marvin Jacob Bracken and Carl Bracken.
He is also survived by grandchildren Franky Bracken, Darren Wagoner, Tater Wagoner, Mattie White, Josh Bracken and wife Jodie, Dustin Bracken, Gerald McCall, Jason Owens, Clint Mauldin, Van Mauldin, Timmy Mauldin, Carly Mauldin, Rhett Mauldin, Bart Mauldin, Ty Mauldin, Dorothy Mauldin, Hyatt Grissom, Morgan Grissom, Nathan Owens and Kristen Owens.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Rockwell on Friday, June 14.
Service: The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 14 at First Baptist Church of Rockwell conducted by Dr. Benny L. Vickrey Sr.
Burial: Will be at 4 p.m. Liberty Wesleyan Church Cemetery in Harmony, with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard of Clemmons.
Memorials: May be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
