Thomas J. Motley

SALISBURY - Thomas J. Motley, 91, of Salisbury, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday June 18, 2013, at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 28, 1922, in Davie County, the son of the late John Pinkney Motley and Annie Safley Motley.

Mr. Motley attended the schools of Rowan County. He retired from the City of Salisbury after 19 years of service as a Water Treatment Plant Operator.

He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II, French Morocco North Africa Sea Bee division that built an air base in 1943.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lucille Agner Motley; and son Thomas James Motley Jr.

Left to cherish his memory are son the Rev. Mike Motley and wife Sandy of Denton; daughter Mary Anne Motley of the home; daughter-in-law Molly Motley of Salisbury; sister Ethel Jacob of Salisbury; grandchildren Tommy Motley, Beth Motley-Bursell, Benjamin Motley, Andrew Motley and David Casey-Motley; great-grandchildren Hope Bursell, Merci Bursell, Hannah Motley, Aiden Motley, Jacob Casey-Motley and Catie Casey-Motley.

Visitation: 10-10:45 a.m. Thursday June 20 at Trading Ford Baptist Church, 3600 Long Ferry Rd, Salisbury, NC 28146.

Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Thursday, June 20 at Trading Ford Baptist Church the Rev. Mike Motley and Dr. Rick Cockerham. Burial will follow in Rowan Memorial Park with military honors conducted by The Lyerly Volunteer Honor Guard.
