Dewitt 'Dee' Boger

KANNAPOLIS - Dewitt Lafatte "Dee" Boger, age 91, of Kannapolis, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at Big Elm Nursing Center after a period of declining health.
Dee was born Sept. 25, 1921, in Davie County, a son of the late Noah A. and Chattie Blankenship Boger.
He was a veteran of the U.S Army Air Corps serving in World War II in the Pacific theater where he saw action in the Philippines, New Guinea and Okinawa.
Dee was a long-time member of Sharon Baptist Church in Concord. He served for many years as a deacon and an usher. Dee worked for many years at Cannon Mills Plant 1, No. 6 weave room.
He enjoyed gardening and sharing his harvest with friends and neighbors. Dee grew beautiful camellias and azaleas. He also enjoyed woodworking and collecting clocks.
In addition to his parents, Dee was preceded in death by his wife, Lodena Bailey Boger; his brothers, Herbert, Millard, Gilbert and Mack; and his sisters, Lillian Blackwelder, Ina Mae Boger, Sarah Jane Chaffin and Nora Sloop.
He is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Service and Visitation: His funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21 at Whitley's Funeral Chapel with Rev. James Strickland officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 2 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Whitley's Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank the kind folks at Big Elm Retirement and skilled nursing who cared for Dee for the past five years. We would also like to thank the staff of Rowan Hospice for their care and support.
