POLKTON - Dr. Fredric "Fred" Arlen Burney, 76, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013.
Dr. Burney was born in Bennettsville, S.C., on Feb. 15, 1937, a son of the late Clyde Burney and Ruth Griggs Burney. He graduated from Wadesboro High School in 1955. He completed his undergraduate studies and received his medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
After completing his residency at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, he served two years as a Captain in the U.S. Army. He was based at Fort Benning, Ga., as a flight surgeon. He owned and operated his family practice in Ansonville.
Fred's passions were hunting, farming and taking care of his patients.
Surviving are his wife, Terry Lynn "Kiki" Burney of the home; his children, Karen Burney Nash of Wingate, Arlen Burney and wife, Karen of Kannapolis, Beth Roy and husband, Doug of Kannapolis, Adam Burney and wife Tiffani of Faith, Kacy Burney of Monroe and Klancy Burney of Salisbury; stepchildren Kimberly Dickens and Gage Dickens, both of Marshville; and six grandchildren, Lucas Nash, David Nash, Heather Burney, Sam Burney, Isabella Pinska and Brayden Pinska.
Service and Visitation: Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home. The family will greet friends Sunday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home.
