Mary Raper Obituary

Mary Jo Raper

KANNAPOLIS - Our sweet, loving, devoted mother, Mary Jo Raper, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, Oct. 30, 2013. She is now in heaven with her husband, Loyd Raper Sr., her mother Addie McDonald, and many of her dear Christian friends.

Born on May 12, 1927, in Murphy, she attended Murphy Schools and worked for Cannon Mills for 50 years in the weave room.

She was active at and devoted to Blackwelder Park Baptist Church where she was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class. She was a part of the church's tape ministry until she became a shut-in herself. She loved to visit with the shut-ins of the church.

She will always be lovingly remembered by her son, Loyd Raper Jr. , his wife Becky, their children Scott Raper (Sandra) of Concord and Rhonda Burgess (Mark) of Kannapolis; her daughter and best friend, Judy Raper Wilhelm and her children, David Wilhelm (Jill) of Alberta, Canada, and Jason Wilhelm (Lucian) of Kannapolis; her brother Hal McDonald (Kathryn) of Rhode Island.

Also left to cherish her memory are her great-grandchildren, Corey, Jordan and Weston Raper, Amber Howell and Joshua and Katie Wilhelm.

Memorials: The family requests that memorials be made to Blackwelder Park Baptist Church, Building Fund, 2204 Summitt Ave., Kannapolis, NC 28081.

Visitation/Service: The visitation is Friday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Blackwelder Park Baptist Church with the funeral at 2 p.m., also at the church, with Revs. Roger Head and Bill Saylor, ministers. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.

Dear Judy, Junior and Families,
I was truly saddened to learn of Aunt Mary Jo's passing last week. She was such a sweet lady and brightened up a room. She fought a courageous battle!
I'm really sorry I wasn't able to attend her services. I surely would've been there if I could have.
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time, and, along with you, I celebrate her wonderful life and rejoice that she's with our Heavenly Father and her body is whole, perfect and without any pain. Hallelujah!
Much love to you all.
