Lois 'Rachel' Spry

SALISBURY - Lois "Rachel" Ridenhour Spry, 88, of Salisbury, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.

Born Dec. 1, 1924, in Cooleemee, she was the daughter of the late Eva Hellard Ridenhour and Cicero Richard Ridenhour. She was educated in Cooleemee schools and attended Salisbury Business School.

Mrs. Spry was a homemaker and had been employed at the National Carbon Plant in Winston-Salem during World War II, Erwin Mills in Cooleemee and Ketner's Supermarket. She was co-owner of M.O. Spry Yard and Garden Supply.

In death in addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Edna Lucille Ridenhour; brothers Richard "Buck" Ridenhour, Thomas Ridenhour and Bruce Ridenhour.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 70 years, M.O. Spry, who she married, Feb. 20, 1943; son Larry Michael Spry and wife Ann of Cooleemee; daughters Jean Karen Moxley and husband Steve of Salisbury, Mona Lynn Brown and husband G. Henry of Mount Ulla; brother James Adam Ridenhour of Cooleemee; sisters Kathleen R. Spry and Nancy R. Foster, both of Cooleemee; grandchildren Stacy Michael Spry and wife Jolene, Ross Miller Spry, Laura Spry, George "Mac" Brown and Cora Louise Brown; stepgrandson Steve Moxley Jr. and wife Penny; great-grandchildren Zachary Spry, Hunter Boger and Landen Spry.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 7) at Summersett Funeral Home.

Service: Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday (Nov. 8) at Summersett Memorial Chapel with the pastor, John Groff, pastor of Cooleemee Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Rowan Memorial Park.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ronald McDonald House of Winston-Salem, 419 S. Hawthorne Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

The family would like to thank the staff of Genesis Healthcare and Novant Health Rowan Medical Center for the care and love given to Mrs. Spry.
