John 'Deat' Canupp

MOUNT ULLA - Mr. John H. "Deat" Canupp, 92, of Triplette Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.

He was born July 11, 1921, in Davie County to the late John A. and Bessie Foster Canupp.

Mr. Can-upp had worked at Erwin Cotton Mills and later retired from Ingersoll-Rand. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in World War II.

Mr. Canupp was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ola Keaton Canupp; a sister, Nellie Canupp; and three brothers, Otis Canupp and two brothers who died in infancy.

Survivors include his wife, Pattie Johnson Canupp of the home; three daughters, Kathy Boger (Norman), Brenda Eaton (Jim) and Julia Prater, all of Mocksville; two stepdaughters, Rhonda Bowles (Tommy) and Vicky Gunther (John), all of Mooresville; a brother, Norman Canupp (Hilda) of Salisbury; two sisters, Allie McKenzie (Leo) of Emerson, N.J., and Margie Payne of Kannapolis; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Service and Visitation: A funeral service will be conducted at 12 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 26, at Eaton Funeral Chapel, Mocksville, with Dr. David Gilbreath and Pastor Tommy Bowles officiating. Interment will follow in Turrentine Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be considered for Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
