1930 ~ 2014 Sandy, UT-Charles Jay Smurthwaite, Feb. 11, 1930 - April 11, 2014, age 84, while sleeping, due to conditions incident to old age, peacefully slipped away to the other side. He was surrounded by loved ones at the home of his beloved daughter, Lisa Schmuhl, Riverton, Utah. Charles Jay, the second of six siblings known as "CJ", was proud of his Latter-day Saint heritage, loved his father, Charles Brown Smurthwaite, and his mother, Rhea Folsom Smurthwaite. Although born in Great Falls, Montana, CJ spent most of his early years growing up in several homes near Liberty Park in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is survived by his daughters Jean Ann (Dean) Delaney, Lisa (Scott) Schmuhl and Charlene Kalk; sons Larry Kalk, Joseph Kalk, and Earl Swartz; fourteen grandchildren; his sisters, Dorothy (Army) Matern, Rhea Jean (Donald) Foulger, Diane (Max) Wheeler; and his brother, Michael (Heather) Smurthwaite. The family wishes to express sincere appreciation for all the care and kindness shown to CJ during his recent, declining months by the staffs at his retirement home, home care and hospice services. The memorial services for Charles Jay Smurthwaite will be held Wednesday, April 16th, at 5:00 p.m. at the Lake Hills Memorial Home at 10055 South State Street, Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held at 4:00 p.m. prior to the memorial service. Rather than flowers, the family encourages well-wishers to make any donations to the LDS Church Humanitarian Services, or to their local area Animal hospital. Zella Huntsman Snow 1933~2014 Bountiful, Utah. Zella Huntsman Snow died peacefully on April 11, 2014, at 80 years of age, after a long battle with End Stage Renal Disease. She was born May 19, 1933 in Torrey, Utah where she lived until she met and married Merrill Snow, from Teasdale, Utah, in the Manti Temple December 27, 1950. She was the daughter of James Clarence and Myrtle Voilet Morrill Huntsman. Zella had unwavering faith and a pure love of the gospel of Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Though she served in many callings in the Bountiful 27th Ward her great love was participating in the Church's Name Extraction program where she served tirelessly for many years. It is estimated that she extracted over 250,000 names. Zella was also active in the PTA during her children's school years, serving as President for one year. Zella was an excellent seamstress, had a deep love of reading, enjoyed playing the piano, and had an affinity for the music of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. She had an independent spirit and although she suffered many health ailments during her life, including Congestive Heart Failure, and later, Kidney failure, which she fought during last 6 ½ years of her life, she rarely complained. She was a positive inspiration to all who knew her during these difficult times. She often thanked her children, doctors, caregivers, and friends, as well as her visiting teachers, home teachers, and other ward members for their kindness and service on her behalf. Ever gracious, she could often be heard saying, "You take such good care of me." Zella has 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and is survived by her children, Shirley Moulton, Kaysville, Utah; Mark Snow (Blanca), Bountiful, Utah; Spencer Snow (Deanne),Idaho Falls, Idaho; Lois Krum, Salt Lake City, Utah; and Marilyn Whitchurch (Michael) American Fork, Utah; and by her sisters Ina Squire (Meade), Cedar Hills, Utah; and Rhea Nelson, Loa, Utah. Zella is preceded in death by her parents James Clarence and Myrtle Voilet Morrill Huntsman, her husband Merrill Snow, her son, Raymond Snow (Pat), her granddaughter Stephanie Moulton, her brother LaVar Huntsman, and her sister Joy Clarke. The Family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the caring Waikoloa (formerly Sante) Assisted Living staff, in Bountiful, Utah where she called "home," for the last 4 ½ years. Thanks also to the Bridlewood Ward members who befriended Zella through visiting teaching, Sacrament Meetings, and Relief Society. A special thanks to her dear friend of over 55 years, Louise Gordon, of Bountiful, Utah. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS church building on 165 West Monarch Drive, Bountiful, Utah. 1971 ~ 2014 Jane Stevenson, dear mother, daughter, sister and aunt, died unexpectedly at her beloved cabin home in Oakley, Utah on Friday, April 11, 2014. She was 42 years young. Jane was born in Oakland, California, and began her love of nature early on the cold beaches of California, the lakes of Oregon, and in the forests of northern Montana. She began playing the piano at 8 years old and had a natural gift for music. She had a passion for the piano and excelled in her study. After graduating from Davis High, Jane began working as a pharmacy technician, a job she loved and worked hard at. The love of Jane's life was her son, Miles. There was no prouder cheerleader on the sidelines while he played numerous sports. Jane's love of nature deepened in recent years as she hiked the mountains of Summit County and began learning to fly-fish along side her best friend Bryan Sharp, and her best girl Maggie, the white lab who never left her side. Jane loved fiercely and lived fully. She will be missed my many. Jane is survived by her son, Miles Persinger, parents Ric and Sidney Stevenson, brothers Brooks Stevenson (Laura) Bryce Stevenson (Aly) and sister Erin Deller (Jesse) as well as 4 nieces and 4 nephews, Bryan Sharp and Maggie dog and Grandma Sam. A viewing will be held at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1941 N. Main St. in Farmington, UT, on Thursday, April 17, from 6-8:00 p.m., and Friday, April 18, from 9:30-10:30 with the funeral following at 11 a.m. Jane will be buried at the Kaysville Cemetery. Vadna H. Swann 1919 ~ 2014 Sandy, Utah-Vadna Fern Hermansen Petersen Swann born in a log cabin, January 20, 1919, in Elsinore, Utah to Jorgen Hermansen and Fern Squire Hermansen, oldest of nine children. Vadna died April 9, 2014 in Sandy, Utah of natural causes. She grew up in Salt Lake City during the depression, graduating from South High School in 1936. She married LeRoy Petersen October 30, 1936. He passed in May 23, 1968. She then met Wayne Swann and they eloped to Las Vegas and were married on December 27, 1982. Wayne and Vadna moved to Ivins, Utah, where they lived for 15 years and in 2013 moved back to Salt Lake City to be closer to family. She worked much of her life waitressing. When LeRoy died, Mom went to work for Litton Industries. After receiving additional accounting training, she took an accounting position with Primrose Sonntag Jewelers working there until retiring at 72. Mom was the link that held us all together. Caring about others was Mom's greatest quality. Her Saturday morning telephone calling tree was immortal and kept everyone updated on the health and welfare of her very extended family and friends. If you were in Mom's phone directory, you probably got one of those Saturday calls. She is survived by husband Wayne, daughter Lynda (Dick) Pinelle, son Randy (Jo) Petersen, daughter-in-law Delores Petersen, daughter-in-law Joann Petersen, former daughter-in-law and close friend Fran Petersen, sister Donna Prince, brother Dean (Carol) Hermansen, 16 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. Vadna was preceded in death by husband, LeRoy, mother, father, sons, Larry and Val and six brothers and sisters, father-in-law James L. Petersen and mother-in-law Elma Petersen. The family would like thank the caregivers at Canyon Health & Hospice and Sandy Health and Rehab for the tremendous care shown to Mom during the last year.
