Alvin Monroe Fulkerson

Alvin Monroe Fulkerson, 95, passed away February 20, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah surrounded by his loving family. Alvin was born on July 28, 1917 in Overton, Clark County, Nevada to Raymond LeRoy Fulkerson and Ruth Hazel Lewis. He attended school in Overton and graduated from high school in 1935.
He married Helen Ellison on May 18, 1941 in Overton, Nevada and was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple in 1955. Helen passed away in 1991. On April 18, 1992 he married Joan Grunig Smith in Salt Lake City, Utah.
During World War II, Alvin joined the Nevada National Guard and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the army. After the war Alvin and Helen raised their family in American Fork, Utah. He worked in the dry cleaning business and later worked for Deseret Industries in Salt Lake City. After retiring he sold real estate.
Alvin was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as Bishop of the American Fork 8th Ward and also as a counselor in the Alpine Stake Presidency. He loved fishing, spending time with his family and sports, especially BYU sports.
Alvin is survived by his wife, Joan, his children, Alvin R (Nicia) Fulkerson, Robert L (Barbara) Fulkerson, Linda (Mark) Peterson and his son-in-law, Dennis Durfey. Also surviving are his sisters, Janice Bastian, Karen Anrig, Donna Cotter, and his stepchildren Robert Smith, Marlin (Julie) Smith and Cheryl (Brent) Bosh. He also leaves 28 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren and 6 great, great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, daughter, Helen Ann Durfey, two grandsons, Robert Scott Fulkerson and Brian Andrew Fulkerson, parents, and sisters, Hazel Ryan and Dorothy Heath.
Funeral Services will be held, Monday, February 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing between 9:45 and 10:45 a.m. in the Hyland Lake Ward, 981 East Revere Circle (approx. 5600 South and 10th East), Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends and family may call Sunday, February 24th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Anderson and Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork, Utah. Burial will be in the American Fork Cemetery.
