Arnold Melvin Webb of Draper, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully April 13, 2013, surrounded by family and friends.
He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Dec. 15, 1920, to Leland J. Webb and Myrtle Wilkinson Webb. Arnold married Opal Cox Lance on May 14, 1946. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, a daughter Karon, and wife Opal.
"Arnie's" life was made up of hard work and a love of hunting, fishing and sports. In his youth he farmed, hunted, and played basketball and softball. He was honorably discharged from the Army after serving during WWII
. He returned from the war, married, continued farming, worked at Kennecott and ran other farm related enterprises. He dedicated many years of service to Utah Department of Wildlife Resources.
Besides introducing his children to camping, hunting and fishing, Arnold was a scoutmaster and coached softball and basketball. Arnie was proud when he had the opportunity to pin the badge on his son, Brent, when he was sworn in as a police officer
. He was very proud too when he and his youngest son, Kevin, built the family cabin together.
On his last day, Arnold worked in his large vegetable garden, visited with his best friend, laughed with his son, Brent, waved a greeting to his youngest great-grandson, Hays Webb, then leaned back on his couch and closed his eyes for the last time.
Arnold is survived by his brother, Jay Webb; and children: Billy Lance (Becky), Sandy; Sharon Webb Kelsey (Dick), Phoenix, Arizona; Brent Webb, Draper, and Kevin Webb, Draper; 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday, April 20th at 11:00 a.m. in the Draper 7th Ward Chapel, 12300 South 600 East. A viewing will be held at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and again on Saturday at the church from 10-10:45 a.m. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens, 10600 South 1950 East, Sandy. www.goffmortuary.com
