Cleve Sheldon Child

Cleve Sheldon Child
1931 - 2013
It is with love and sorrow to announce the passing of Cleve Sheldon Child on April 5, 2013, from natural causes. Cleve was born March 2, 1931, in Salt Lake City to Diana Hyda Fallentine Child and Paul Curtis Child. He was the seventh of seven children.
Cleve graduated from West High School and attended the University of Utah. At West High he enjoyed being captain of the football team "when they didn't have face guards" and playing tennis. At age 19 he joined the U.S. Navy, serving four years during the Korean War conflict on the U.S.S. Pine Island, obtaining rank of Petty Officer Second Class. After the war, he met his wife and sweetheart of 56 years, Coralie Giese Child, and they began a family with two sons. He retired from Siemens after a successful career in electrical-systems sales and design.
He especially liked doing just about anything with an "ing" outside: fishing, boating, camping, birdhunting, skiing, gardening, and above all - golfing. His other interests included reading, watching a variety of sports and television shows and attending the theatre with Coralie. He made a point to spend time with friends and family, and was especially fond and proud of his grandchildren who called him "Papa." Cleve professed and tried to live by the Golden Rule; or, as he would quip "do unto others!" Truly the life of the party, Cleve will be dearly missed.
Preceded in death by his parents and six siblings. He is survived by his wife, Coralie Giese Child, his children Christian (Melisse Grey) Child and Steven Child, and three grandchildren - Jack, Tori and Rochelle.
Cleve was proud to donate his remains to the University of Utah Donor Program for medical research. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. The family will receive friends and family from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donate to . Messages to the family may be sent to www.holbrookmortuary.com.
