D. Grant Johnson
1928 ~ 2013
RIVERTON, UT - Doyle Grant Johnson, 84, our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 in Riverton, Utah.
Grant was born November 23, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah to John Ivan and Veva Andrea Hansen Johnson. Grant married his eternal sweetheart Norma Berrett in the Salt Lake Temple on August 20, 1952. They were blessed with three children.
Grant served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. Following his honorable discharge from the military he began a lifelong career in banking working with Zions First National Bank and then being an integral part of the founding of Draper Bank and Trust. Countless individuals remember getting their first loan from Grant at the bank.
Grant was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served faithfully in a variety of callings including Ward Missionary, Clerk, Bishop's counselor, and Bishop amongst others. He served as a volunteer throughout the community. He especially enjoyed reading with students in elementary schools. He loved attending the temple and served alongside his sweetheart in the Jordan River Temple. This love for temple service continued after her passing. As recent as last month he served three days a week. At the time of his passing Dad was serving as Sunday School President for the Legacy Branch in South Jordan - a calling he loved.
Dad's hobby was his sweetheart and his family. During Mom's many difficult health challenges, he would patiently and lovingly care for her until her passing on February 17, 2002. He was always there for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, loving to spend time with them.
He has been blessed with wonderful friends and neighbors in Midvale and in South Jordan at both Cornerstone and the Legacy Retirement Center. He will be missed by many, but is being greeted now by many who have waited for a sweet reunion on the other side.
Grant is survived by children, David Grant (Marianne) Johnson, Sandy; Andrea Lynne (Gregg) Van Hazelen, Sandy; Alan Paul (Jackie) Johnson, Riverton; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; brothers, Floyd (Verla) Johnson, Keith (Verona) Johnson; and sister, Louise (Bill) Johnson. Preceded in death by wife, parents, two brothers, Harold and Richard; and sister, Dorothy.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at the LDS Chapel located on 1244 West Chavez Drive (9700 South). A viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m. that morning at the same chapel prior to the service. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy.
The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff of the Intermountain Riverton Hospital and the Country Life Care Center for their kindness and tender care. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the General Missionary Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We love you Dad! www.goffmortuary.com
