Dec. 17, 1982 - Dec. 20, 2012
David Fetzer was the kindest, purest soul on the planet. He was born December 17, 1982, and to the grief of all who came within the sphere of his influence, he died on December 20, 2012.
David was an actor, beginning with his days at City Rep Theatre, and spanning roles at Pioneer Memorial Theater, SLAC, Plan B Theatre, and The Grand Theatre. He attended Interlochen Arts Academy where he made talented lifelong friends with whom to make magical art.
David was a producer and director, interested in all art forms, but particularly dedicated to the theater, beginning the New Works Theater Machine in Salt Lake City in 2010 to create an engaging theater experience for 18-35 year-old theatergoers.
David was a musician, teaching himself to play guitar, flute, clarinet, piano, and harmonica. He formed the band Mushman with lifelong friend Pat, and with them made three albums.
David was an artist and sharp wit. He joined the two in his cartoons, Overman and the Void, and Edward Sykes Cunningham with Apple, scribbled all over his junior high school textbooks and tests. Somehow, he was allowed into high school.
David was also a filmmaker. He never said no to a friend asking for help on a project. Most recently along with lifelong friend Kenny, David worked on a film, Must Come Down, that has appeared in many film festivals.
But above all these, David was a guileless, loving, and compassionate friend, brother, son, and partner. David somehow knew what each person needed, and provided it, without ever knowing he was, and without ever crowing that he was doing so. He melded wisdom beyond his years with the most adorable nerdiness ever.
David is survived by his mother Betsy Ross and her husband Rick Anderson; father Robert Fetzer and his wife Debbie; and siblings Scott, Jessica, and Carly, with whom he formed a strong and loving bond, and a loyalty that time and distance from each other has not diminished. He also leaves many loved step-siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles, and dear, dear friends. He most sadly leaves behind his beloved Ashly, who brightened his life immeasurably the past two years.
