Dec. 20, 1924-Feb. 8, 2013
Dad was born in Bingham Canyon on December 20, 1924, to Ray and Bertha Allred. He spent his youth in Roosevelt, then dad joined the Navy before the beginning of World War II in the South Pacific. He was injured and returned home in 1944.
He had kept contact with a beautiful girl he met in the 8th grade named Ardis Long. They decided to get married and met in California. He was 19 years old and mom was 17 years old. They were married for 66 years and were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.
Dad started A&D Beauty Supply and retired when he was 59 years old. They moved to St. George, where he opened Dixie Beauty Supply. Mom and dad loved it there and stayed for 12 years.
Their next move was to Vernal, where mom was born, and where they had family. They loved working in the Vernal Temple and enjoyed 12 years there. Mom preceded dad in death.
Dad loved golfing and for years played with a close group of friends: Glade Johnson, Norm Tattersall, Gordon Anderson and Dick Ricketts. They weren't good, but they had fun. Sometimes after golfing 18 holes instead of returning home they would go golf nine more holes at another course.
Through the friendship of Bishop Hadeen, on Lake Circle, and Curtis Hadlock, dad's life changed for the better and they remained good friends.
Dee (Kathryn) and Beth (Gary Beutler) are his son and daughter. Dad had nine grandchildren: Darci, Jodee, Erin, Megan, Mark, Emily, Troop, Kal, and Jamee and 25 ½ greats.
We want to thank all the caretakers, nurses, doctors and staff at Silverado Senior Living for the love and compassion they showed our father. They were the best! We want to thank Neel Christensen, his roommate, for his friendship and care.
Dad requested no funeral and we will honor that, but family and friends may gather at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 West South Jordan Pkwy (10600 South), Monday, January 11, 2013, from 11:00 am - 12 noon for a short good-bye. Interment will be at Redwood Memorial. Online condolences at www.jenkins-soffe.com
