Frederick S. Crawley
1925 ~ 2013
Our beloved husband, father, and grandpa, Frederick (Fred) Samuel Crawley, age 88, passed away Monday, March 4, 2013, after a brief illness.
He was born February 19, 1925 in Kaysville, Utah, the son of Leah Drucilla Stokes and Irvin Samuel Crawley. He married the love of his life, Lois Marie Day on August 3, 1944, in the Logan Temple. He served in the United States Marine Corps as a Sergeant in the 5th Marine Division, during World War II, and was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic actions on Iwo Jima. His love for and service to his country, is only surpassed by his love for and service to his family.
Fred worked for Phillips Petroleum for 40 years, and his employment took him around the world. He enjoyed bowling, target shooting, hunting, chess, and beautifying his yard. He would never shy away from a good-spirited and lively debate. He also laid rock for several members of his family, and they considered him an artist. He often sang to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and they loved to hear him recited a poem called "The Duel" about a Gingham Dog and a Calico Cat.
Surviving are his wife, Lois M. Crawley, daughter, Diane Gates, son, Richard D. Crawley (Lois G.), brother Irvin Crawley (Carolyn), 10 Grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren (one more on the way), and 13 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son, Frederick D. Crawley, sisters, Blanch, Faye and Helen, and brother, Jim.
