Gary Cecil Crofts

1937 ~ 2012
Gary Cecil Crofts passed away peacefully on October 2, 2012, having been cared for by his children and others who dearly loved him. Gary was born August 31, 1937, in Rock Springs, Wyoming. He grew up in a loving home, the son of Clara and Harold Crofts, with his older brother Monty and his younger brother Bill. Gary spent summers on the farms in Vernal with his grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins. He graduated from Rock Springs High School and
studied engineering at the University of Utah. Gary married Wilma Burrell, his sweetheart since 6th grade, on September 5, 1959. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Gary and Wilma lived briefly in Salt Lake before moving to Layton, Utah, where they raised their five children. Gary worked in the engineering, insurance, sales, and contracting fields. He was involved in service throughout his life, giving uncounted hours as a scout leader, art and rocket club adviser, and in the Jaycees. With the Jaycees, Gary organized Easter egg hunts and July 4th city celebrations, and acted as emcee at Miss Layton and little prince and princess pageants. Gary's service was most felt on a personal level with his children, relatives, and neighbors.
Gary was preceded in death by his loving wife, Wilma, and his mother and father. He is survived by his brother Monty Crofts; brother Bill (Joy) Crofts; his children Kellie (Roy) Robles, Nora (Joe) Gallegos, Keith (Emily) Crofts, Curtis (Jessica) Crofts and Kara (David) Julien; and Gary's 15 grandchildren: Andre and Will Robles; Brennan and Julius Gallegos; Gary, Jane, Sam, Eliza and Isaac Crofts; Charlie and Riley Crofts; Hannah, Zachary, Joshua and Rachel Julien. Special thanks to son-in-law Roy for his devoted and selfless care, with loving in-home assistance from the wonderful staff of Rocky Mountain Hospice.
