James John Powers

1971 ~ 2013
Jimmy was purposely born on December 31, 1971, so he could always be assured of having a party on his birthday. He loved being around people and had the Powers family charm in spades. He loved sports, especially Utes and Notre Dame football, golf, and skiing. He attended the University of Utah and received his Bachelor's degree in Political Science. He was currently working on his Master's in Business administration. Jimmy was captain of his high school football team at Judge Memorial, and he loved being involved in Kappa Sigma Fraternity during his college years. He was employed at UPS from 1994 until 2011 and held several management positions. Jimmy made many wonderful friends there. Jimmy was so very skilled in his leadership of teams of hundreds of UPS employees. Management was truly his gift.
What Jimmy loved to do the very most was spend time with his two beautiful children, Carter and Nina. His favorite activity was to play catch with Carter, bike-riding and movies. He was so proud of Nina at how well she was doing in gymnastics. Nina was always his "Little Princess". He was involved in their lives in many ways. He was a Boy Scout leader, a soccer coach, a cheerleader at gymnastics meets, and a very special bedtime reader of "Butterfly Kisses". He loved taking his children and beloved golden retriever Murphy camping, even if it was just in the backyard.
Jimmy always strove to be a high achiever and at this point in his life, he was searching for happiness. Jimmy went to the highest source asking for guidance for his path to happiness. His family is confident God chose to bless him with eternal happiness, which he entered on April 22, 2013. Jimmy is now with his Creator and has found both peace and happiness.
James John Powers is survived by his two beautiful children, Carter James Powers and Nina Katherine Powers; his beloved sister, Michelle Gress (Jay Gress); mother Sally Hemminger (Ray Hemminger), and his stepmother Karon Powers. He married Jennifer Lea Stover in 1994 and shared many happy years with her. Their marriage ended in 2010. Jimmy also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins whom he loved very much.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Frances Powers; his grandparents, John and Helen Powers and Augustine and Sofia Carrasco; his Uncle Frank Carrasco; Aunt Sandra Fuentes; and cousins Nancy and Milito.
Those who knew and loved Jimmy are invited to attend a Rosary Service on April 26, 2013, at 6:00 p.m. and a funeral mass on April 27, 2013, at 11:00 a.m, at St. Vincent's Catholic Church, 1375 E Spring Lane, Salt Lake City, UT 84117.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to The James Powers Children's Donation Account at Key Bank.
The family wishes to thank Toby Sausedo for all his help and always being such a wonderful friend to Jimmy.
We will miss you Jimmy. Your light will always shine in our hearts.
