Dec. 23, 1954 ~ April 26, 2013
Our dear beloved Mother, Sister, friend passed away surrounded by her family in Bend, Oregon on April 26, 2013 at the age of 58.
She was born to Garth Bear and Nancy Nick on December 23, 1954 in Roosevelt Utah. And was raised by Vida Bear, who considered Linda as her own granddaughter.
Linda was raised learning the Shoshone-Goshute language and was taught the native values, the rules of life, and around native ceremonies - through strict discipline. She was a member of the Native American church and participated in the Sundance on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation.
In her earlier years she was a traditional dancer at Pow-Wows throughout Indian country. Her love of beadwork and Quillwork for many years, became a vocation, and quickly became in demand by collectors. Linda was inspired by her Grandmother Vida Bear's beadwork and learned different techniques. Today some of her pieces are in private collections and in two known museums, The Utah Natural History Museum in Salt Lake City and The National Wildlife Museum in Jackson, Wyoming. Her creation of natural materials and beads were made into beautiful pieces using historical patterns from the North Plains, Columbia River Plateau and The Shoshonean Great Basin.
The beaded creations she made will be treasured forever.
She is survived by her children, Ryan, Scott and Megan Harrelson. Cousins; Laine Thom from Holladay Utah, Lori Bear of Salt Lake City, and other numerous cousins. Mother Nancy Nick Martinez and half siblings, Aunt Evanelle Bear.
Linda is preceded in death by her father Garth Bear, Grandmothers Vida Bear, grandfathers, aunts and uncles.
