Omar Mendez

May 17, 1960 ~ April 18, 2013
Omar Mendez passed away at Ogden Regional Hospital on April 18, 2013. He was born in Kingsville, Texas on May 17, 1960. He graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1978 and attended the University of Utah. He served a LDS mission to Veracruz, Mexico. He is survived by his children whom he loved dearly, daughters, Olivia Danielle and Aerin Nicole Mendez, son, Anthony Watson, his parents, Martin and Minerva Mendez, and sisters, Cynthia Houston and Patti Mendez.
Omar worked for many years at Statement Salon and finished his career at Studio Nine as a hair stylist. He loved his work and enjoyed the relationships that were formed with his clients and coworkers who became another family to him. In Omar's spare time he worked and donated his skills at Apple Village Assisted Living. There he become aware he had a gift for working with the elderly and absolutely loved it! Omar will be remembered for his service to others, his ability to make people laugh and for being a prankster. He enjoyed participating in and watching all types of sports, especially attending any University of Utah sporting event. He also had a great love for cycling. He participated annually in the MS Bike race to raise money for multiple sclerosis and the LOTOJA. He will be greatly missed by his friends, family and all those he associated with.
A celebration of his life will be held on April 28th from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the 15th Street Gallery, 1519 S. 1500 E, SLC, UT.
