Peter Don Bancroft

Peter Don Bancroft left his family October 7, 2013. He was diagnosed with Lung Cancer one month ago.
Don was born July 9, 1926 in Strawberry, Utah to George Albert and Callie Augusta Rasmussen Bancroft, the fourth of eight children. In 1944 he joined the US Army to serve his country during WWII. He participated in the invasion of the Philippines, served in Korea and played a key role during the airlift in Berlin Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1948. Don then moved back to Duchesne, Utah where he became a truck driver for Norma Rolie Trucking Company. He met his loving companion, of 62 years, Marjorie Elaine Fitzgerald, in Boonville, California while driving an 18 wheeler. They married Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 1951, in Reno, Nevada. He talked his new bride into moving back to Utah where they finally settled in Salt Lake City where they raised their family of six children while he was working various jobs. He drove truck for Johnson Oil Company, helped build the smoke stack at Kennecott Copper and helped with the construction of Interstate 215. In 1979 he began working at Consolidated Freightways and continued there until he retired in 1991. He was a member of the Teamster Union Local 222.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; children: Lynn (Dayrl) Bancroft, West Jordan; Cindy (Bruce) Brandol, Sandy; Susan (Jim) Shepherd, West Valley; Jeanine (Leon) Webb, West Jordan; Gordon (Peggy) Bancroft, West Valley; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents; daughter DeeAnn Bancroft; brothers Clayton Bancroft and Bud Bancroft; sisters Erma Miller, Vicena Bowden and Melba Bancroft.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, October 15, 2013, 1:00 p.m. at Utah Veterans Memorial Park, 17111 South Redwood Road. There will be a visitation Monday, October 14, 2013, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road.
