1931 ~ 2014
Our loving father, husband and grandpa passed away at home on February 5, 2014 from complications of Parkinson 's disease.
Born May 21, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Thomas Evan and Alice Ashworth. Richard (Dick) graduated from the University of Utah in 1955 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Economics and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He served his county in the Air Force National Guard and later the Utah Army Reserves during the Korean War
. He married Shirlee Wight on August 22, 1957 and the created a loving home with their daughters, Carrie and Cherie. Shirlee passed away on October 3, 2002. Richard was blessed to find and marry another beautiful woman, Vicki Wilson Ashworth, on June 30, 2007. Vicki generously gave her love and companionship and lovingly took care of him to the end. Richard and his brother, Thomas Evan Ashworth, started their own company, Ashworth Drywall Inc., in 1958 and became one of the largest building contractors in the Salt Lake Valley through the 1960's and '70's. He was known and respected for his integrity, honesty and generosity. The majority of Dick's leisure time, aside from devoting time to his family, was spent on the tennis court, the golf course and the card room with his many "partners in crime." He was fortunate to travel the world with many friends and his loving spouses. He was a quiet and generous supporter of the Utah Symphony, the University of Utah and many charitable organizations.
Richard is survived by his wife, Vicki; daughters, Carrie Hurst and Cherie Ashworth (Ed) Beazer; five grandchildren, Sierra, Kelsey, Victor, Brendan, Savana; one great-grandchild, Layla; step-daughter, Sunny; step-grandson, Bridger and sister, Dorothy Pedersen.
The family gives deep thanks for the countless hours of loving care provided by ResCare, particularly Jamie, Lucy, Desiree and Robin, and Good Shepherd Home Health Care and Hospice.
