Robert Capel Child

1925 ~ 2013
Robert Capel Child, age 87 of Lake Havasu City, AZ passed away peacefully Friday morning. He was born January 12, 1925 in Salt Lake City, UT to Alpine and Frances Child. Preceded in death by a son Danny. Bob attended South High School and served the US Navy in the Pacific Fleet during World War II (1943-45). He married Joyce LaRue Harwood on Oct. 26, 1946. He lived in the Cottonwood Heights area until 1995. He began working at a young age for Luff Motor Company located on 700 East and 17th South. Red Bob as he was known in his younger days had a career as a Pressman in the printing field for over 30 years. His real love was his backyard mechanics which he pursued for most of his life. His greatest accomplishment was his ability to make and be a friend. He enjoyed being around people, was a great listener, and told a good story. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed the association of many ward members throughout his life. He served in many church callings throughout the years and cherished the relationships built with whom he served. In his younger years he could always be found at the gym. He took his gym time seriously and was successful in training Mr. Utah in 1957. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joyce, two sons, John (Shelley) Child and Steve Child. Grandchildren Robb J. Child, Michelle (Tyler) Roberts, Jennifer (Adam) Lingwall, Austin Child. 10 great-grandchildren and two great, great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary located at 2350 East 1300 South on Saturday the 19th at 1:30 p.m. Interment at Larkin Sunset Lawn. A viewing will be held prior to services 12 to 1:00p.m.
