Richard Patterson Coombs passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 31, 2018. Richard was born on December 14, 1942, to Robert Lincoln Coombs and Anna Barbara Patterson Coombs in Boston, Massachusetts. Richard graduated from Bates College, in Lewiston, Maine, in 1964 and entered the United States Naval Reserve as a career officer. After 20 years of service in the United States and overseas, Richard retired from the Naval Reserve in 1984, then worked another 17 years for the Navy as a civilian. Richard spent his retirement years in Hampton, Virginia, before moving to Utah to be closer to family.
Richard is survived by his brother Barry Coombs; his daughters Victoria Coombs Fitlow and Nina Elizabeth Coombs Smith; and his 7 grandchildren, Austin, Ethan, Evan, Denali, McKinley, Marlee, and Keegan. Richard will be laid to rest at the Utah Veterans Cemetery in Bluffdale, Utah. The family will hold a private graveside ceremony with military honors.
