Alan Cope Obituary

Alan Ludlow Cope
"Al"
1927 - 2019
Our sweet dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle passed away suddenly, but peacefully, at home on January 2, 2019. Alan was born on June 17, 1927, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Albert John Cope, Sr. and Ethel Mabel Wesson Ludlow Cope. He married his sweetheart, Shirley Bagley, May 21, 1954, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on February 3, 1965. Alan was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enlisted in the US Navy right after graduating from South High School. He served during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a medic during his military service. After his release from the military, he worked for thirty years for the US Postal Service and part-time for the Union Pacific Railroad for nineteen years.
Alan loved to laugh, tell funny stories, dance, and travel with his beloved Shirley. They traveled to all fifty states, seven continents, and sixty-eight countries at least once. Alan dearly loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Alan is survived by his son, Greg Miller, two daughters, Melody (John) Tuft and Brooke (Ron) Ollis, ten grandchildren: Bryan (Michelle) Ackerman, Brett (Tara) Ackerman, Kristi (Wade) Fautin, Kami (Troy) Madsen, Kaprece (Shannon) Staples, Kassi (Travis) Gray, Jennie (Mike) Brown, Jason (Camille) Ollis, Dustin (April) Ollis, Dirk Ollis (Jeffrey Pinto), and twenty-eight great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Albert John Cope, Jr., Grant Ludlow Cope, Wesson Ludlow Cope, Richard Ludlow Cope, William Ludlow Cope, sisters: Mary Ludlow Cope, Frances Ludlow Cope, and Helen Ludlow Cope Hanes.
A viewing will be held at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah, Friday, January 11, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. There will be another viewing from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm Saturday, January 12, 2019, also held at Larkin Mortuary prior to the funeral service at 1:00 pm. Interment at Salt Lake City Cemetery.

Dear Brooke and Melody, Seeing your parents' picture brought back so many good memories. Loved them as our Stake ballroom dance team coaches in Rose Park over 50 years ago. Your Dad was such a kind, sweet man, one I'll never forget. Wishing you all peace and sending much love. -- Rinda
