We met sister Smith when her husband served in Hong Kong. She was always kind and interested in our lives and became our friend. I was able to visit her later in her residence in SLC. A great lady never to be forgotten

I'm so grateful to have known the Smith Family in Edgehill Ward. I worked with her in the Relief Society with Fay Jensen and I was Lillian's MIA Maid teacher. Loved every minute of it and cherish those memories. You are a great family and my thoughts and prayers are with you. Lovingly, Donna Bullock (Donohue) By-the-way: Cathe Gotchy Ray and I are very close friends living in the same town and attending the same ward. Yea!

Dear Smith and Bradshaw families: My deepest condolences to you in the passing of Sister Smith. She was, and is, a grand lady! I didn't know Sister Smith well because I was a child when she was married. But, I do remember, with fondness, her parents and brothers. We were members of the same ward (Browning Ward) in Salt Lake City. I do remember, though, when she and her husband would visit her parents -- she was always very kind and gracious. May our loving Heavenly Father bless you with peace at this difficult time.

Dear Smith Family, We send our love and support at this time. For the passing of a wonderful mother, wife, friend, a womans leader and an example to all. She was so gracious whenever you would talk with her and she always made you feel important. I enjoyed her when I was a roommate at BYU with Sandra and enjoyed being in their home. We visited with her in the New York Airport on the way going to Denmark to meet our son after his mission. We visited with her several times in the Salt Lake Temple. She was loved by all. Thanks for all the memories. We are now on a mission in the temple in Stockholm and enjoy the peace of the temple here. So, we send our love and support to ALL the family and thank you for being you! Thanks for sharing your folks!

Dear Smith Family, I have such fond memories of my time in Hong Kong with Doug and Barbara and their granddaughter. They were both so loving and gracious and always treated me as if I was one of their own - like surrogate grandparents. I will always love them and cherish that very special time. Thanks for sharing them with me. They were amazing!

Oh Fun! THE HAWAIIAN HOUSE OF LAUGHTER! Anyone remember? Loved Sis Smith, her goodness, her energy, her example of righteous living. AND...her children. All seven of them. It was all a wonderful example for me to reflect upon my entire life. What a fantastic mentor. I love you all. I have such great memories of being in Sis. Smith's home with all the family, especially Lillian and Sondra. (I thought your name was Sondra not Sandra) Bye for now and accept my loving sympathy, but remembering the goodness we all learned from a very special lady of the Gospel. I'm sure we'll all be together again - sooner than we think (maybe) Love always, Cathe Gotchy Ray

Dear Smith Family
We extend our love at this tender time.
I often reflect on the association with your great family and the legacy of Doug and Barbara. Sharing the growing years of Edgehill with you and remebering your mother as my primary teacher and the Smith influence and example, has been a blessing in my life.

Lowell and Family,
We never had a chance to meet and know your mother but from all we have read about her, she sounded like a dear, and precious and beautiful mother. You and your entire family were very blessed to have had such a special woman in your lives.
Words are never enough to express our sympathies but do know we were thinking of you and may the Lord give you peace and leave you his comforting spirit. May you cling to all the wonderful memories your mother left you. Thank you too for all your help you provided us for the past 2 years. We will always be grateful. God bless.

I will NEVER forget her! She is an "Elect Lady" I was HONORED to meet her on a few occasions and oh, I felt a I was in SPECIAL place when I shook her hand. On one occasion, I elected to be in her presence when I should have been somewhere else. I was with my Mother at that time. We both were there. It was at a reception. She radiated a SPIRIT words can not express. WOW! I will miss her along with millions of other people. There was no question of what she stood for.

We met Barbara and Doug while living in Hong Kong and then several times when we visited Utah. Last year she came to my 60th birthday party in Smith center to join the whole family. She always took an active interest in my conversion (I was born in Czech Republic and converted in Brazil) I will always remember Barbara as a shining example of true LDS womanhood. Her energy and love for others, always seeking opportunity to help. I will never forget her.

Sister Smith was a great example and help to me when I was President of the Washington D.C. Stake Relief Society. It was a time of agitation for the ERA and other women's issues. I worked for her a little with problems in the Whitehouse Counsel on Families. She was graceous, loving and an inspiration in leadership. I send my love and gratitude to her family. Blaine, Becky and all the Smith family,
Your mother was a beautiful lady, through and through. Through the Edgehill Ward, our families were connected. I remember how sweet your mother was, to our family, when my sister died, unexpectedly. What a happy reunion she is having with your dad and other loved ones. I know that our Lord and Saviour has greeted her with open arms and said, "Well done, thy good and faithful servant." My memories of her will remain, forever. With love to you.

I had the opportunity to interview Sister Smith a few years ago for the book Hard One Wisdon-Advice for a Richer life from the Greatest Generation. She was so friendly, charming, inspiring, and insightful. She was my General RS President in my young married life and was a wonderful example for me.

I shall always treasure the memory of your kindess as you met with 5 women who came up from Las Vegas as a new RS Presc'y wanting to know more. You opened your home to us and taught us literally at your knee & from your heart. We'd even picked up a "lone visitor" from Temple Square to tag along with us, & you welcomed her as well. Thank you. We want the family to know of our great love for Barbara and Doug and express our own feelings of loss at this time. We have many tender feelings that extend over many years that we will always remember. We remember her and Doug for their sincere and genuine interest in us and our family while we were neighbors, special times when we went to dinner, and were with them in the Sacred Grove, had her stay with us in West Va., and even in the delivery room with Sherilyn's baby! We take great comfort in her testimony of the Savior's plan and rejoice that she and Doug are together planning for the time they will be together with their great posterity.
All our love. Dr. E. Reed and Eleanor G. Heywood, West Virginia

Barbara will be missed by so many people. She touched lives and help those of us in need in whatever way she could. I was blessed to serve with her in Relief Society. She taught me more than I could ever express my gratitude for. I will miss her sweet sense of humor and the feeling like I received a hug every time she walked into the room. When she asked "How are you doing?" she meant it. I have some wonderful memories of her being my Relief Society President and serving as Compassionate Service with her guidance. I will forever treasure her wisdom and love. I am so thankful for the amount of time I was allowed to get to know and love her. I will hold close to my heart my memories of her love and support. One memory keeps coming up and it warms my heart. I was on bed rest and Barbara would call most nights to check on me. My husband had answered the phone one evening "Hello, you have reached the playground. Slide speaking." Barbara not missing a beat responded "Hello slide, this is the swing. Is the merry go round available?". She was such an amazing lady who enriched every life she touched. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. I know Heavenly Father will comfort and take great care of you at this time. All of my love,
