Beatrice Marie Hostar Avery

1924 - 2015 Obituary Condolences
January 21, 1924 ~ November 28, 2015
Bea passed away peacefully in her sleep early on the morning of Saturday, November 28, 2015, at Pacifica Senior Living - Millcreek. She was, to her own amazement, almost 92 years old. She lived a long life that was full and loving. Her family will miss her greatly.
Beatrice Marie Hostar was born in Detroit, Michigan, on January 21, 1924, and was baptized into the Catholic Church. Her parents were Louis (1902 - 1959) and Mary Katherine Kolman Hostar (1898 - 1953). Bea eventually moved to Wyoming, where she graduated from Rock Springs High School in 1942. She graduated from nursing school in Rosedale, Oregon.
On June 8, 1946, she married Donald Robert Avery (1923 - 2013) in Lander, Wyoming, and together they had three sons, Donald Louis (1947), Dee Merle (1951 - 1953), and Kevin Leon (1957). Bea and Don, who were married for 67 years, moved to Salt Lake City in 1952. She worked at Holy Cross Hospital and Granite Furniture.
Over the years, Bea loved cooking and trying new recipes, playing Yahtzee and cards with friends, and took pride in keeping her home beautiful. She found much joy in planting her favorite flowers, geraniums. In the summertime, she looked forward to camping and fishing at favorite Utah campgrounds such as Smith and Morehouse, Sheep Creek, and Cedarview. Bea and Don were proud of their sons Don and Kevin's accomplishments, and took every opportunity to spend time with their grandsons, Joshua and Timothy. Bea took great pleasure watching her children and grandchildren grow, get married, and have families of their own, something she never thought she'd live to see. She was also an avid collector of crystal figurines, each of which had a special spot on its shelf where it could best reflect the sunlight.
Bea was preceded in death by her mother (1953) and father (1959 ), her son Dee (1953), and husband Don (2013).
Surviving Bea are her sons and daughters-in-law, Donald L. and Pamela Avery, and Kevin and Deborah Avery; her grandsons, their wives, and their children: Joshua and Amy Avery, and their daughters Alyssa and Olivia, and Timothy and Samantha Avery and their son Cameron; her step-granddaughter Laura Peters; and her sister Pauline Hansen.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 2 at 3 p.m. at the Neil O'Donnell and Sons Mortuary, 372 E. 100 S, Salt Lake City, Utah.
The family wishes to thank the management and staff at Pacifica Senior Living - Millcreek for the kind and excellent care they provided Bea, as they had done for her husband Don before her, at their facility during the last year of her life.
