BENTE TRAPP Obituary

Bente Trapp 1931 ~ 2011 Bente Trapp died peacefully on May 28, 2011 after a briefillness. She was able to spend some delightful days with all of her children before she died. Bente was born on November 8, 1931 to Knud and Karen Moe in Minneapolis, MN. She met her husband Jerry at Girl Scout camp where she was a counselor and he a handyman. They married on January 29, 1954 and were happily married for 54 years. Bente graduated from Mankato State College with a teaching degree and later earned her Master's in education at Manhattanville College. She loved being a teacher and made a significant influence on many children over the years. Bente was very proud of her Danish heritage and shared these wonderful traditions with her family and friends, especially Danish Christmas. Bente was a fabulous cook and successfully experimented with many world cuisines. She had a collection of over 350 cookbooks. She was also an avid reader and knitter. She and Jerry enjoyed travelling especially to Denmark and Ireland. Bente was a passionate volunteer and advocate and supported many causes. She volunteered with the Utah Aids Foundation and was a pre-AIDS test counselor at the Utah Department of Health. She supported animal shelters and started a Parkinson's support group at her retirement community. She was also a very proud Democrat. Bente didn't mince words and expressed exactly how she felt. We loved her for her passion and honesty. Bente was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jerry. She is survived by her son Eric (Jacqueline) Trapp; Lise (Frank) Herriott; Alex (Suzanne) Trapp; grandchildren Michael, Kevin, Ryan, Christina, Carl, Matthew, and Lauren; great-grandchildren Layla and Penny; sister-in-law Laurice (Virgil) Ronholdt and special friends. Charitable contributions can be made to the Utah Aids Foundation, the Parkinson's Disease Foundation or a cause that you are passionate about.

Although we only met Bente and Jerry a few times, we loved them dearly. They were both quality people who added so much life, laughter and conversation to any room. It is difficult to lose a parent and we empathize with the void and sadness you all may now feel. May you always smile in your heart with fond and fun memories.

I will always keep my memories of your Mother and Father very dear and close to my heart. I volunteered with your mother years ago at the health dept doing pre HIV test counseling. Our friendship lasted many years as we shared dinners and visits. What a great loss to you, your families and Salt Lake City. My most sincere condolences to you all.

Dear children of Bente: I got to know Bente and Jerry through the Oratorio Society of Utah. We became good friends on a trip to Israel. Bente and Jerry were both wonderful people and I miss them terribly! I pray your hearts will always remember the good times with both your parents and that knowing they are together with God will bring you precious peace! God bless you!

Bente was a delight to spend time with. She was always giving and concerned. The world is a sadder place without her and Jerry.

The world was a better place for Bente being in it. It has a large void with her passing.
She was a good friend and supporter of my brother, Gene Gudaitis. That was back in the early 90's, when most people were afraid of AIDS.
Bente will be missed by many.
My condolences to her family.
