On July 23, Major Bill R. Lane was Promoted to Glory. He was born January 18, 1930 in Tulsa OK. to Harry Beryl and Grace Anne Lane.
In 1937, the family moved to Bell Gardens CA., and as a teenager he met his wife to be 'Bunny' Angel at The Salvation Army camp in Redondo Beach, CA. He joined the Marines in 1948 and became the cook at Camp Pendleton during the Korean War. In 1953 he and his wife 'Bunny' entered The Salvation Army Officers Training College. In 1954 they were Commissioned Salvation Army Officers and served a long and illustrious career of 40 years serving the Lord in the western states of California, Montana, Washington, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Idaho and Hawaii touching countless lives along the way. Asked what is required to be a Salvationist, Bill replied "Someone of strong Christian conviction with a real intense desire to be of service to his fellow man". After retiring in 1994, Bill and 'Bunny' continued to minister throughout the Utah communities in the Salvation Army Corps and the First Church of the Nazarenes. After the passing of his wife 'Bunny', Bill courted and married Marian Mepham of Amherst Mass., who brought the smile and love back into his life.
Survived by his wife, Marian; daughter Becky Lane; sons: Mark (Laura) and Kevin Lane; brother, Ken (Lea) Lane; 3 step-children; 4 grandchildren and 5 step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 29, 7:00 p.m. at The Salvation Army, 438 South 900 West with a viewing from 6-6:45 p.m.
