Calvin Agricola Obituary

Calvin Don Agricola 1918 ~ 2006 OGDEN - Calvin Agricola, 88, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 surrounded by his family in Ogden, Utah. He was born April 6, 1918 in Elwood, Utah, a son of Frank N. and Lena Miller Agricola. He spent his youth in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School in 1936. Cal attended Utah State University where he was an All American Honorable Mention guard for the Aggies Basketball Team, playing in the first NCAA Basketball Tournament in 1939. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. In his senior year, he met a young nursing student, Mary Jane Nelson. They were married December 5, 1940 in Logan, Utah and remained sweethearts for the next 66 years. Cal was in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific during World War II. Following the war, he and M.J. returned to Ogden, where they raised their four children. He began working at Murphy-Neill Electric Company in 1947 and later became president and owner, retiring after 40 years. He was a member of the I.B.E.W. and the National Electrical Contractor's Association, where he served as president and governor. He was also inducted into the Fellow of Electrical Contracting Foundation. Cal was a sports official for many years on the high school and collegiate level. He was inducted as an official into the Utah Sports Hall of Fame in 2004. Cal loved nature, gardening, reading and music. He was passionate about the game of golf. He and M.J. spent many happy years at Patio Springs, Ogden Golf and Bloomington Country Clubs, where they made many lifelong friends. Cal was also a member of the Ogden Lion's Club. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Cal was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will remain in our hearts forever. Surviving are his son, Thomas Nelson Agricola, his daughters, Patti Langrock (Dave), Shelley Agricola (J. Fehon) and Jill Sparrow (Ben). He is also survived by his nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, his sister Nola Pickett (Calder) and sister-in-law Elizabeth Agricola. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane, his parents and his brother Norman Agricola. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the special caregivers at The Meadows and Emeritus Estates Assisted Living Centers and Crestwood Care Center. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, June 6 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in his name to Primary Children's Medical Center, 100 N. Medical Dr., SLC, UT 84113. Funeral Directors, Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary.
