Carrol Norene Dennis Obituary
1923 ~ 2013
Carrol Norene McGranahan Dennis went peacefully to God's Greater Glory in the early morning of June 13th at the age of 89 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's.
Carrol was born on June 24, 1923 to James and Bessie Byers McGranahan in Lindsey, Missouri. She had a wonderful childhood growing up in a large family on a farm. Carrol left the farm for the big city and became a medical transcriptionist for a doctor in Kansas City. She worked there many years.
On September 3, 1960, she married the love of her life James Donald Dennis in California. Together they traveled the world with Don's job. They visited South Africa and many places in the Far East and Europe. They moved to Salt Lake City in 1970 and have resided here since that time.
Carrol was an active member of First Baptist Church, serving as president of AB Women and very active in Church Women United. She lent her beautiful voice to the church choir for many years. Carrol was a wonderful cook and made many pies for church functions. Carrol played a mean game of bridge and enjoyed that very much. She was also an excellent seamstress making many of her own clothes and many beautiful quilts.
Carrol is survived by several nieces and nephews including Keith McGranahan and E. Budd Simpson both of Alaska and Linda Orr of Hawaii.
She was preceded in death by her husband Don, her parents and all of her brothers and sisters.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, June 20 from 10:30 to 11:30 in the parlor at First Baptist Church, 777 South 1300 East. A graveside service will follow at noon at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
We would like to thank the angels at St. Joseph's Villa for their tender and loving care of Carrol the past eight years.
Memorials may be made to the first Baptist Church Foundation.
Funeral arrangements under the direction of Evans and Early Mortuary.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.evansandearlymortuary.com.
