CATHERINE BRAMWELL Obituary

Catherine Bramwell 1949 ~ 2010 Catherine Bramwell passed away after a short illness on July 13 holding the hand of the person she most loved, her son Elliott.Cathy was born in Pensacola Florida Sept. 19, 1949 to Ross K. Bramwell and Donna Denkers Bramwell. Her father, Ross, a graduate of the US Naval Academy was a navy pilot shot down in the Korean War and declared missing in action. Cathy was extremely proud of her father's service and was a life long fan of the Army Navy football game. "Go Navy!" Cathy was raised in Ogden, Utah after her father's death by her mother, her grandparents, Julia and Harold Denkers, and three uncles Glen, Steve, and David Denkers, who were more like big brothers than uncles. Cathy graduated from Ogden High School in 1967, where she was a senior class officer. She graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in English. She affiliated with Pi Beta Phi women's fraternity. She married Paul Fraughton Sept 18, 1970 (later divorced). The couple moved to Santa Barbara, Calif. in 1974 where Cathy's outgoing personality attracted many friends. Returning to Salt Lake City in 1980 Cathy worked for LDS Hospital in public relations. In 1982 she gave birth to her son Elliott, who was the light of her life. She was a former member of the Junior League of Salt Lake. Cathy was involved in AA where she found great help and made many lasting friends. Cathy is remembered as a creative and witty friend with a humorously offbeat take on the world around her. She was affectionately known as the "Solar Queen" for her deep tan and propensity to always find a ray of sunshine in even the darkest room. She was envied for her penmanship and was a talented calligrapher. She was a loyal and supportive friend, opening her heart and her home to people in need. Cathy loved listening to the music of Motown and never missed an episode of Law and Order. She cared deeply for her animals and had an affinity for Springer Spaniels. She was a voracious reader of mystery novels and would usually finish a book in a day. Cathy is survived by her son Elliott Fraughton, her uncles and aunts Steve and Susan Denkers, David Denkers, Lizbeth Case Denkers, her cousins Steve, Julie, Ann, Paul, Chris, Nate and Leanne, and their children, all of whom will miss her presence in their lives. Cathy is preceded in death by her parents, her uncle and aunt, Glen and Nancy Denkers. We love you Cathy. You will be missed and we thank you for touching our lives. A celebration and commemoration of Cathy's life will be held on Tuesday, July 20th at the Red Butte Gardens Orangerie at 11:00 a.m. Cathy's wish was to have friends and family share their memories of her in an informal setting. Guests are asked to carpool if possible as parking is limited. The family would like to thank the medical staff at University of Utah Hospital for their compassionate care while Cathy was with them. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Cathy's name to The Haven Treatment Center (974 E. South Temple, SLC UT 84102)

Dear Elliott,
My husband, Shawn and I have known Kathy for many years. I will remember the light of her beautiful smile and warm greeting that she would share with us whenever we would see her. I was very sad to hear about her death and so sorry for your loss.

Dear Elliott: As one of Cathy's other friends wrote, "through tears" I am weeping as I write. I am so sorry that I didn't get a chance to visit your mother before she passed. I had heard in AA meetings that I attend that Cathy B. was ill, but I didn't know her last name. My heart is aching because I loved, admired and respected Cathy for her courage and endurance. When your mother was happy, she was so, so funny and full of compassion, encouragement to others and especially showed her love to all. I will miss her terribly. Please know that my prayers are with you and your family. With Sympathy and Love, Madolyn Grice

Elliott ~ What a great celebration of Cathy's life today. And what fun she
would have, listening to the stories. Going on my hike with her all those years ago, and remembering those 'word games' we played...
She won them ALL! She was so bright, and lit up a room when she
walked in!!

I am just in shock with the news that my dear Cathy has passed away. I first met Cathy at cornerstone counseling and we became really good friends. I enjoyed going to Strut your Mutt with Cathy and will cherish those memories. Elliot, I am so sorry for the loss of your wonderful mom.

Through tears I look at Bram's picture and must smile as I think of the funny things she always did and said. I wish I'd been a better friend. Worst of all I will miss her remembrance as I am in ireland. Her family meant so much to her. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
